BOISE, Idaho- (October 9, 2008) — Kount Inc., announced today that it has licensed two newly patented technologies to TeleCheck Services, Inc. and its parent company, First Data Corp.

The license agreement allows TeleCheck and First Data Corporation to use Kount’s device fingerprinting and proxy piercing technologies to help businesses, such as merchants and financial institutions, safely process customer payment transactions online.

“We are pleased to make these important technologies available to TeleCheck and First Data,” said Kount CEO Brad Wiskirchen. “These are highly sophisticated technologies that can detect forms of fraud which are often the most difficult to detect, such as botnet attacks and organized crime.”

Kount’s device fingerprinting technology is a method for identifying a customer computer involved in an online transaction via a merchant website. It does this by collecting numerous parameters from the customer computer and assembling them into a device fingerprint that detects fraud.

The proxy piercing technology determines the accurate geolocation of computers being used to initiate online transactions, providing methods for determining the true physical location of the customer’s computer, even if an anonymous proxy is being used. This is important to those battling online crime because crooks often attempt to spoof their actual location by using anonymous proxies to forward their transactions.
